Family Photographs

written by Hannah

Twice over the Alps before ever I was born, my name is Hannah but when online I tend to go by Lunaed, or Eluned Francis. I like to live in the past or in other peoples’ present. I live to travel and love to see the world from the perspective of others. I chew slowly, and absorb the world in much the same way: savouring it.

For some weeks now I have been processing old family photos with a view to uploading them and sharing them with our overseas relations. This has been a pretty gruelling task because they number in the thousands and the one man who was able to put a name to the poor, forgotten figures in some of them is no longer for this world. His passing was the major impetus behind this cataloguing venture; it saddens me to think that there may come a time when this family history is lost. We live in an age of nigh on endless opportunity, in which we can do unthinkable things, but old lore and culture can’t easily be optimised for the internet.

I hope that this new website will be a useful resource for my own family, if no one else. I’d like to think that other people will help build on it and that I might uncover some new anecdotes and stories in the making of it. For the time being, it is nothing more than the bare bones of a project and sadly I think it will remain thus until I have more than one day off consecutively. Hopefully I will have piqued the interest of a few curious parties enough to cast their eyes across what I have put up so far:

Family Photographs

The name is terrible but I assure you it is just pencilled in, and there are hundreds more photographs that need scanning, sorting and cropping before I can start attaching stories and names to these ghosts. Sadly due to my being from home, this project is now on the back burner. I will continue it at a later stage however, time provided!
